About the Artwork

High in the White Mountains of California live the oldest living organisms on Earth: Methuselah trees, also known as Bristlecone Pines. I had a chance to visit the Methuselah grove in 2004 and found myself awed by the experience. Before Columbus discovered America, before Jesus walked the Earth, and before the Egyptians built the pyramids, these trees lived. The oldest among them bear the marks of over four millenia of fire and storm, creating a fascinating aesthetic of scars, folds, and contortions. Methuselah celebrates the aged beauty and unparalled endurance of Earth's oldest living resident.
