 | About the Artist
William Lidwell is interested in how people think, learn, and create. Not surprisingly, his work is designed to help people understand and explore the interplay between the cognitive and material worlds. In his art, he seeks to stimulate creativity and thought through Gestalt representations of inspiring people, places, and things. Representing inspiring imagery in this way engages people to participate in synthesizing the images on a cognitive level. This makes the symbols more impactful and meaningful, helping to create environments that foster problem solving, collaboration, and innovation.
William is author of the book, Universal Principles of Design, and is a regular columnist for O'Reilly's Make Magazine. He created the Abstract-Gestalt style, which utilizes patterns of simple, self-repeating forms and color combinations to engage Gestalt processes of perception. William continues to write, design, and conduct research from his studio in Houston, Texas. |
